John de Miranda, EdM is a person in long-term recovery who graduated from Harvard University with a master's degree in Counseling Psychology. He has held a variety of positions in the addiction prevention and treatment sectors. The son of a Cuban immigrant, he has provided executive leadership to treatment programs in San Diego and Monterey County. He is a regular contributor to Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Weekly and has contributed six major articles to Addiction Professional. For 15 years he has taught in the alcohol/drug studies programs at the University of California, Berkeley and San Diego. In 2010, SAMHSA selected Mr. de Miranda as an "Ask the Expert" participant. More recently, he has been appointed to the Prop 63 Advisory Committee which will determine use of the California's marijuana tax revenue for youth prevention, treatment, and education. Also, he was recently selected a Tobacco Harm Reduction Scholar by KAC (Knowledge, Action, Change) and attended the Global Forum on Nicotine in Warsaw, Poland.
